Lexus unveiled its 2018 Lexus LS sedan. The car marks the fifth generation of the model. In addition, it is a flagship sedan line started at the 1989 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Now, Lexus began a new era at 2017 NAIAS
Accordingly, Lexus’ chief engineer said:
“Not only will the LS symbolize the Lexus brand, it will become the definitive new-generation luxury car embodying Japanese tradition and culture. As such, this global pinnacle must go far beyond what the world expects from a luxury car.”
Over 90 countries will sell the 2018 Lexus LS.
The car uses a new architecture for luxury vehicles. The car has rear-wheel drive. Furthermore, Lexus claims the car offers a better driving experience, higher-quality interior and advanced technology.
Lexus does not look to disappoint either. 28-way heated and cooled seats with Shiatsu massage reside on the driver side. Plus, rear seats recline.
Also, rear passengers can experience heated seats and massages too. High-tech includes a new driver assistance systems (ADAS). It contains a big first in the industry: a collision avoidance system that detects and brakes for pedestrians. Plus, the car can steer out of the way.
Instead of a V-8 power train it has a new twin-turbo V6 with a 10 speed automatic transmission. This yields 415 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Thus, the vehicle can go from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. Mileage will top the previous V-8 engine, but official figures are not available. However, those numbers will be available closer to the sedan’s launch.
More Features Detailed as Lexus Unveiled 2018 Lexus LS Sedan
Lexus reps discussed the vehicle’s specifications at length. For example, Jeff Bracken, Lexus VP, told an audience at the 2017 NAIAS about other features for the 2018 Lexus LS:
“With the executive package… additional relaxation is available with a raised ottoman for passengers to rest their feet.
Other options include a panoramic roof … 3D surround Mark Levinson audio with ceiling speakers… and the 24-inch color heads-up display.
Also … to help drivers stay connected … the 18 model year multimedia system includes…10 years of Enform safety and service connect … Dynamic Navigation that updates map information in real time … and App Suite 2.0 …which allows drivers to customize their screens to include favorite apps … such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Yelp.
Bracken touted the car’s build quality and new technology. Part of the reason is the brand’s new method to make its vehicles. The Lexus 2018 LS is one of the first to use this new method.
Lexus used the same modeling for the Lexus LC coupe. Lexus markets the LC coupe as a high-end vehicle. It launched last year. Furthermore, the new build uses new high-strength steel to reduce the car’s weight by 200 pounds. The ride is stiffer yet quicker. Therefore, fuel economy should increase for the new LS.
In addition, Lexus wants to make a hybrid version too. But officials did not provide any further information. Likely, details will be available as the release approaches.
The new Lexus LS will be available in the United States by late 2017.
