For all of you who wanted a written statement, now we have it official. Cristiano Ronaldo is the best soccer player in the world.

After winning Ballon d’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo, won FIFA World Best Player award, in a ceremony which was held in Zurich.

Cristiano Ronaldo won Champions League and Club World Cup with Real Madrid and won European Championship held in France this summer, with the Portuguese national selection.

Along with him Lionel Messi, the Argentinian star, and Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid’s best player were also contenders for this award.

“It’s a great feeling, as I mentioned many times last year was a dream year, no doubt about that,” the striker said at the ceremony shortly before receiving the prize.

“Real Madrid wins the Champions League and the national team won the Euros for the first time in history. Unbelievable season. I’m so proud and happy.” adding, “I have to say thank you to my team-mates of Real Madrid, and team-mates of Portugal and the coaches. It was an amazing year.”

FIFA also announced various other awards.

The best coach was Claudio Ranieri who won the English Premier League with last year’s sensation Leicester City.

Carli Lloyd, Houston Dash member, won The Best Soccer player award among the ladies, and she admitted that she didn’t expect to win this honor.

“I honestly was not expecting this,” said Lloyd. “I know Melanie did fantastic in the 2016 Olympics.”

The Best Female Coach went to German national selector Silvia Neid, because the German national team won the Olympic gold medal for the first time in history.

The award for Best Fans was given to both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund supporters for the song which they chanted together before the Europa League quarter-finals, this April.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” is an anthem that both teams and their fans use and they were singing it for the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster.

The Fair Play award went to Columbia to Atletico Nacional. This team was supposed to play against Chapecoense in the finals of Copa Sudamericana but the Brazilian team had a disaster where 71 people have died.

The Colombian side didn’t want to accept the title, and they told FIFA and CONMEBOL it should be awarded to their opponents.
