Mafia III is having an eventful day today. Along with new DLC, Hanger 13 is releasing a free demo of the game for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
The demo will allow players to play the entire first act of the game setting up the rest of the adventure. The demo is 25 GB on Xbox One, 27 GB on PS4, and 24 GB on PC. For those who play the demo, all of their progress will be saved in the event they decide to purchase the full game. The full game will be half off until April 17.
Mafia III’s new DLC is called “Faster, Baby”. The new DLC sees Lincoln investigating a racist law department in Sinclair County where Jim Crow ideology is still in practice. New vehicles and new vehicle abilities are added to make Lincoln even more deadly such as the added ability of throwing grenades out of the window when driving.
“Faster, Baby” is available for purchase individually for $15, as a part of the $30 DLC pass, or as a part of the $80 Deluxe Edition.
Mafia III was released on October 7, 2016, for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Mafia III is set in the 1960s in New Bordeaux, a fictionalized New Orleans, and tells the story of Lincoln Clay, a black Vietnam vet, who comes home to the war forced back into a life of crime after the Italian Mob executes his family. He proceeds to form his own crime family to take over New Bordeaux.
While the game has been praised for its engrossing story, characters, and setting, gameplay mechanics and technical issues have hurt the game. “Mafia 3’s strong characters and confident storytelling kept me engaged, even if the gameplay rarely delivered anything but bog-standard and repetitive open-world action. That’s a bummer, because Lincoln is an incredible protagonist and New Bordeaux is a fantastic setting thematically, and it would’ve been great to see them put to better use,” IGN said in a review.
