Here is the Golden Globe Awards 2017 ceremony recap, and the complete list of Golden Globe Awards 2017 winners.

The Hollywood musical, La La Land, took home the most Golden Globe Awards this year. The movie won seven prizes, including the best musical or comedy film award, the best director award, the best screenplay award, the best score award and the best song award. The stars of the movie are Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, who also won in the acting categories.

Moonlight was named the best drama and Casey Affleck and Isabelle Huppert won for acting. Affleck won the best actor in a film (drama) award for his role in Manchester By the Sea and Isabelle Huppert won the best film (drama) actress award. Isabelle Huppert’s performance in the thriller Elle, beat the competitors, including Natalie Portman. She was considered the favorite for playing Jackie Kennedy in Jackie. Elle also won the best foreign language movie award.

It was a big surprise when British actor Aaron Taylor Johnson won the best supporting film actor award for his role in Nocturnal Animals. This prize was expected to go to Mahershala Ali for Moonlight. The best supporting actress award went to Viola Davis for playing a woman in 1950s Pittsburgh in Fences. This is a role she first played six years ago on Broadway, and this movie was an adaptation of the August Wilson play. It explores race relations in a post-war American society. When she accepted the award, Viola Davis said:  “It’s not every day that Hollywood thinks of translating a play to the screen – it doesn’t scream ‘moneymaker’. But it does scream art, and it does scream heart.”

The best animated feature film award at Golden Globe Awards went to Zootopia.

There was more than one British triumph in the TV categories. Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman won for The Night Manager. Claire Foy won the best actress award in a television series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, a Netflix Original.

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony was hosted by a comedian Jimmy Fallon. His opening monologue was not risqué, like some of his predecessors, but he found a time to speak up about the last year’s politics in the United States.

The Golden Globe Awards are led by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and the ceremony honored the best in TV and movies from the past year.
