HDR: Full List of Games That Support the Technology

HDR, High Dynamic Range, is a new buzzword in gaming that has been gaining steam in the last couple of years. Now that 4K and HDR capable televisions are becoming more readily available, different types of media, including games, are beginning to incorporate these features for consumers to experience. Similar to the boom seen with high definition televisions and how that affected technology going forward, 4K and HDR features are enhancing the way consumers experience audio and visuals.

2016 saw gaming take these features and incorporate them into hardware updates and begin to make this a standard in gaming going forward.

Microsoft’s Xbox One S was the first hardware update to have 4K and HDR capabilities. Released on Aug. 23, 2016, the console supports 4K streaming made possible through streaming services and an ultra HD Blu-ray disc tray which allows games to be upped to 4K resolution. The console’s HDR support allows games to run better and look more vibrant visually. Games are now starting to support HDR 10. Sony has also taken steps to equip their audience with the latest features in gaming. In the Fall of 2016, Sony updated all versions of the PlayStation 4 to be HDR capable, with even launch PlayStation 4s being enabled to do so. The release of the PlayStation 4 Pro offered an updated version of the PlayStation 4 that offers 4K rendering and offers a better performance with PlayStation VR. The PlayStation 4 variations show in HDR10 just like the Xbox One S and games on the PlayStation platform are also beginning to equip their games with HDR support. With HDR and 4K beginning to become the norm for media, look for more games in the future to support these features in the future.
