Melania Trump arrived at the Inaugural Ball in a vanilla silk ball dress she designed together with American designer, Herve Pierre.
On an Inauguration Day, First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump arrived in a soft blue cashmere dress and jacket designed by Ralph Lauren. She reminded some of Jackie Kennedy, who wore the similar outfit back in 1961 when John F. Kennedy took office. For Friday night’s inaugural ball, Melania traded that look for a silk vanilla dress she designed with Herve Pierre, the creative director of the Carolina Herrera fashion house.
According to the office of the First Lady of the United States, her dress for the inaugural ball is designed by Herve Pierre and Melania Trump herself.
“It’s an honor to dress the First Lady. I was actually lucky because, over my 20 years in the United States, I dressed all the first ladies: Mrs. Clinton at Oscar de la Renta, Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Obama at Carolina Herrera. So I feel lucky and honored to dress Melania Trump, but this time under my name,” said Herve Pierre for Women’s Wear Daily Magazine.
Herve Pierre said that designing with Melania Trump is organic, and added that Melania has a very strong personal style. She won’t change because she became the First Lady of the United States. She has a tailored sense of style and it needed to be incorporated into a ball dress, which he managed to do with the help of the new First Lady of the United States.
“It was an amazing experience! She knows what she likes. Our conversations were, and are, very easy. She knows about fashion, as a former model. She is aware of constructions, so we have already the same vocabulary when it comes to designing a dress,” said Herve Pierre.
The maxi floor-length ball gown Melania helped Pierre to design is made in a vanilla crepe hue, featuring an off the shoulder cut. This is a trend all fashionistas love at the moment. The dress includes a deep side slit on the skirt flaunting her long model legs, asymmetric arc details and a red silk ribbon detail on her waist.
In the last few years, we became used to a romantic theme at the inaugural ball. Donald Trump instead chose to pay tribute to the United State’s military with a patriotic theme. He showed his gratitude for the people with the ticket prices. The cheapest ticket price costed $50, in order to make the Inaugural Ball more accessible to the average American citizen who supported the new president’s campaign.
Donald Trump and Melania Trump danced at all three official balls. They danced at two balls at the Washington Convention Center and at the National Building Museum. The latter was an invitation-only ball ceremony afterward, a “Salute to Our Armed Services Ball“.
The new president of the United States and First Lady of the United States danced to Whitey Houston’s song “I Will Always Love You“, honoring American service members at the “Salute to Our Armed Services Ball“.
