The Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection was revealed at Menswear Paris Fashion Week.
The biggest fashion speculation of 2017 is finally confirmed: Louis Vuitton teamed up with Supreme to create a Fall/Winter 2017 menswear collection. Supreme x Louis Vuitton brought the collection to Paris Fashion Week to present it.
The hype about this collection made the Internet go crazy. Finally, New York skate label Supreme and the French luxury fashion brand released the full collection, and it might be the most wanted collaboration in the history of the fashion industry.
Men’s artistic director at French fashion house Louis Vuitton explained how the collaboration happened to WWD. “You can’t have the conversation of New York men’s wear without Supreme right now because it’s such a massive global phenomenon. I used to work when I was at college unpacking boxes of Supreme at a company in London that distributed it when it was just starting out, so it’s something I’ve known all along in my life. I just feel that the strength of their graphic versus the strength of the Louis Vuitton graphic, and that kind of Pop Art feeling — it works together perfectly,” said Kim Jones.
Supreme is well-known for its collaborations with various fashion houses. However, until now, Supreme used an unauthorized logo of Louis Vuitton on its skateboards. When Kim Jones posted on his Instagram account, and later deleted, a photo of a gray Louis Vuitton monogram canvas covered with a Supreme sticker, Instagram rumors about the potential collaboration set the Internet on fire. Founder of Supreme, James Jebbia, was in the front row at the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2017 show in Paris last summer, which raised, even more, suspicions. The French fashion house later posted a photo of Louis Vuitton knitwear, but with a Supreme logo. A$AP Bari created an Instagram story wearing Supreme x Louis Vuitton Bandana. After an official statement, all rumors were confirmed.
“Supreme and Louis Vuitton collaborate for the first time, creating a capsule collection of clothing, accessories and jewelry, showcased alongside Vuitton’s own. A new Monogram variation is here interrupted with Supreme’s iconic Box Logo. It is showcased in a range of garments, woven in classic pale washed Japanese denim and camouflage jacquard, fils coupé on pyjamas as well as in a cognac and chocolate colour way referring to the original 1896 Monogram canvas. More than a collaboration between two labels, this represents the excellence a New York street style and the Louis Vuitton’s French savoir-faire.”
On Jan. 19, Supreme x Louis Vuitton gave us the full look at the entire collection. The Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection includes six styles of handbags: backpack, messenger bag, fanny pack and holdall in camouflage fabric, black and red leather. They feature the Supreme logo and Louis Vuitton monogram. Other items in the collection include denim, scarves and bandanas, shoes and knitwear, all stamped with iconic logos of Supreme and Louis Vuitton.
Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection also features the skateboard, a reference to 2000’s fake LV monogram made by Supreme, to which LV responded with a lawsuit. It also includes the matching kits and trunk.
The collection will be available to shop on July 17, 2017, at Louis Vuitton stores and probably some pop-up shops. The prices will reflect the French house’s pricing, so don’t act surprised when you see big numbers on the pieces from this collection.
